CREE’s timber construction system comes to Switzerland

Austrian experts in hybrid timber construction sign license agreement with Losinger Marazzi AG

Bern/Dornbirn – September 18, 2020. Demand for timber buildings is growing because they are sustainable, low-carbon, and locally produced. Switzerland is no exception – here too, investors and developers are increasingly looking to use natural materials in their construction projects. Now Austrian experts CREE have awarded Bern-based developer and general contractor Losinger Marazzi a license to use its groundbreaking timber construction system. CREE founder and CEO Hubert Rhomberg is delighted with this new partnership: “Losinger Marazzi is on the same wavelength as CREE, and we are very proud to welcome the company into the CREE family. Together, we will show the Swiss market the many advantages of our groundbreaking hybrid timber construction system, and we are excited about bringing CREE’s renowned quality and efficiency to commercial and residential projects in Switzerland.” Accompanied by Volker Weissenberger, Director of Global Licensing at CREE, Hubert Rhomberg signed the license agreement with Benoît Demierre, Deputy CEO and Head of the German-speaking region of Losinger Marazzi, and Reto Meier, Head of the Basel branch.

Even more sustainability and innovation for Losinger Marazzi

Losinger Marazzi is an established Swiss company that is part of the French Bouygues Construction group. It sees this new partnership as the next step in its quest for more sustainability and innovation. CREE is providing Losinger Marazzi with a digital construction process from planning to completion, thus acting as a strategic partner in building the company’s expertise in timber construction. Reto Meier is optimistic about the future: “We are very keen to get started on suitable projects in Switzerland as quickly as possible. Initial evaluation processes and discussions with investors and developers are already underway, and we are also setting up the supply chain.”

Cutting-edge timber construction for the Swiss construction industry

The highly capitalized Swiss market still has great potential, despite an increase in vacant properties and a degree of public skepticism about major construction projects. End users are increasingly keen to have a voice and are looking for projects to be more sustainable. They are calling for low-carbon construction projects that use local raw materials – and investors are beginning to echo these demands. Wood is the perfect option to meet these new requirements, and thus provides compelling arguments within sustainable construction.

CREE’s timber construction system as a unique selling point

“CREE’s timber construction system gives us the edge over our competitors and allows us to offer a comprehensive modular system for timber construction that encompasses the whole value chain of the building’s structure, including the façade,” says Benoît Demierre. This offers two major advantages: the entire building can be constructed by the company’s own site workers, and the spaces can be divided up and used in a very flexible way. This makes the CREE system the perfect solution for multi-story commercial and residential projects. By signing the license agreement, Losinger Marazzi has become part of a network of global innovation and expertise that is rapidly expanding its knowledge through numerous projects around the world. Thus, the company can gain a clear advantage in many areas, such as technology, ecology, and customer acquisition, and expand its process and operational capabilities.
