Prefabricated Precision Meets Urban Complexity – HASSLACHER group’s Wall Solution for CREE in Copenhagen

The collaboration between CREE Buildings and the HASSLACHER group has already delivered outstanding results around the globe. The recent project in Copenhagen stands out as a milestone, showing how shared expertise, innovative product development and precise coordination can overcome complex challenges on a dense urban site. From the creation of newly developed 2D wall elements to the successful handling of just-in-time logistics, this article highlights how new innovations combined with great partnerships turn vision into reality.

A Global Leader in Engineered Timber

The HASSLACHER group is a globally active innovation leader in the field of intelligent and integrated system solutions for modern timber construction.  As a family-owned company with over 120 years of experience, HASSLACHER group has become a trusted partner in the development of integrated timber solutions for complex projects around the world. As a Products & Services Partner in the CREE Network, HASSLACHER group shares a clear vision: advancing timber-hybrid construction through standardized, scalable, and sustainable solutions. The most recent CREE project “Østerbrogade 190“in Copenhagen, Denmark marks another milestone in this collaboration. The six-story building will comprise 20 studio apartments and a café, combining residential and community space within a compact urban footprint. It puts the company’s wall elements to the test and highlighted the importance of coordination and logistics on a dense urban site. As the first CREE project in the Nordics, Østerbrogade 190 paves the way for the future of prefabricated timber-hybrid construction in Scandinavia.

Innovative Wall Elements for the CREE System

For this project, HASSLACHER group delivered newly developed wall elements as part of its Building Solutions portfolio. Designed specifically for the CREE System, the walls integrated glued laminated timber columns and pre-installed steel connectors directly into the panels, increasing precision and reducing installation time on site. The solution also had to meet strict structural requirements: transport limitations, element stiffness, large window openings, and local building physics. The wall elements were tailored in close coordination with CREE Denmark and external engineers, resulting in a new standard that balances prefabrication, performance, and adaptability.

Overcoming Challenges on an Urban Site

The Copenhagen construction site presented a set of real-world challenges: limited space, no storage capacity, and the need for just-in-time delivery of large-format elements up to 3.35 meters in height. The logistical complexity required close coordination across planning, production, and transport. Despite these constraints, installation was completed within the targeted timeframe, with consistently high quality noted upon delivery. The project became a valuable learning experience for both sides, showing how early-stage collaboration and prefabricated precision can overcome urban construction barriers.

Setting the Stage for Future Applications

HASSLACHER group has already contributed to several CREE projects around the globe, including the Eunoia Junior College in Singapore, Siemens Campus in Erlangen, Valdebebas in Spain, and the atrium roof of EDGE Suedkreuz in Berlin. The wall solution developed in Copenhagen now forms the basis for further applications across CREE’s growing portfolio, from hotels and student housing to office buildings. With production sites across Europe and the ability to deliver CREE components at scale, HASSLACHER group is well-positioned to deliver consistent quality across markets.

Together, HASSLACHER group and CREE continue to shape the future of building, with timber at the core and collaboration at every step.
