Sesotec, a global leader in contaminant detection and material sorting systems, is expanding its production capabilities with the construction of the New-Level-Factory in Schönberg, Lower Bavaria. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to set new benchmarks in sustainable industrial construction.

The project encompasses three single-story halls with a total area of approximately 8,200 m² dedicated to production, logistics, and assembly, complemented by a two-story office building. The CREE System office structure is ingeniously integrated into the sloped terrain, with its lower level opening towards the valley, providing employees with unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. The design, conceived by Dietrich Untertrifaller Architekten, emphasizes minimalistic architecture that harmonizes with the natural topography.

Brüninghoff, serving as the general contractor, implemented the CREE Building System – a modular timber-concrete hybrid construction method known for its sustainability and efficiency. This approach allows for the prefabrication of wall and ceiling elements, facilitating rapid on-site assembly and reducing construction time. Notably, this project marks the first use of recyclable timber-concrete composite ceiling elements, underscoring the commitment to circular construction practices.

Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of the New-Level-Factory. The facility will utilize a combination of geothermal energy and a substantial photovoltaic system to meet its energy needs, entirely eliminating the use of fossil fuels. Additionally, a rainwater harvesting system will collect and repurpose water for non-potable uses, further enhancing the building’s sustainability profile.

Upon completion, the New-Level-Factory will accommodate approximately 190 employees, with plans to increase to 230 by early 2027. The facility will house departments such as manufacturing, assembly, engineering, planning, and service. Equipped with advanced machinery, including laser cutting, folding, welding, and surface treatment systems, as well as 21 assembly lines for small-batch production and prototyping, the factory is poised to significantly boost Sesotec’s production capacity and innovation capabilities.

This project exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to industrial construction, blending architectural innovation with environmental responsibility to create a facility that meets the demands of modern manufacturing while prioritizing sustainability.
